Behind the Scenes: The Mission of the Charlie E & Minnie P Hendrix Foundation
"Honoring a Legacy, Empowering a Community: How One Foundation is Changing the Narrative Around Chronic Illness

At the heart of every movement lies a story—a spark that ignites change. The Charlie E & Minnie P Hendrix Foundation for Chronic Illness was born from such a story: one of resilience, compassion, and the unwavering belief that no one should have to walk the chronic illness journey alone.
🫶 Why We Exist
Our mission is simple yet powerful: to educate, empower, and advocate for individuals living with chronic illnesses. We strive to improve health outcomes by bridging the gap in access to resources, support, and digital health literacy—especially in communities that have historically been overlooked.
Named in honor of Charlie E. and Minnie P. Hendrix, this foundation is a tribute to their enduring legacy of care, strength, and community service. Their spirit guides us as we work toward a future where all individuals, regardless of diagnosis, background, or income, can live fuller, healthier lives.
👥 The People Behind the Mission
This foundation is more than just an organization—it’s a family. Founded by Susan Hendrix, a chronic illness warrior and health advocate herself, the foundation reflects both personal experience and professional commitment to meaningful change. Through her lived journey with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), Susan knows first-hand the daily challenges that come with managing a chronic condition—from misinformation to misdiagnosis, to navigating care systems that often feel overwhelming.
But she’s not alone. A small, dedicated team of volunteers, medical advisors, and community partners stand behind the mission—offering their skills, time, and hearts to serve those in need.
🌱 What We’re Working On
In 2025 and beyond, we are excited to expand our reach and deepen our impact. Some of our key initiatives include:
- Digital Health Literacy Workshops:
A flagship program designed to help individuals understand online health tools, protect personal health information, and confidently access virtual care. - Community Resource Hubs:
We are building partnerships with local clinics and libraries to provide printed guides, peer support, and educational materials in under-resourced communities. - Advocacy & Storytelling Campaigns:
We’re elevating real voices from the chronic illness community—highlighting the stories that inspire, inform, and ignite systemic change. - Wellness Support Circles:
Small, virtual gatherings that offer a safe space for conversation, mindfulness, and solidarity.
💜 Where We're Headed
Our dream? To be a national leader in chronic illness education and empowerment, known for our heart-first approach, innovative programs, and inclusive community. But we can’t do it alone.
As we continue to grow, we invite you to be a part of this journey. Whether through volunteering, donating, sharing our resources, or simply following along—your support fuels every step we take.
Together, we are rewriting what it means to live with chronic illness.
With hope and healing,
The Charlie E & Minnie P Hendrix Foundation
